Benoît Vanderheyden [Université de Liège – Belgium]

Benoît Vanderheyden was born in Belgium in 1969. He received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering (physical electronics) from the University of Liège, Belgium, in 1992. He received the M.S. and PhD degrees in nuclear physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, IL, in 1994 and 1998, respectively. From 1998 to 2000, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Niels Bohr Institute, Copenhagen, Denmark. In 2000, he joined the academic staff of the University of Liege, where he is now Full Professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department. He developed several numerical models for the magnetic flux penetration in high-temperature superconductors, and coauthored a series of papers on magnetic shielding and trapped-field magnets. His current research interests include the development of numerical methods for modelling the electrical and magnetic properties of high-temperature superconductors and the analysis of the magnetic behavior of thin-film superconductor systems.
